X. Ho Yen's Author Newsletter (02 Nov 2022)
Greetings Dear Subscribers to X.HoYen's Author Newsletter,
A COSMIC scale THANK YOU to all of you ULTRASUPPORTERS for participating in the release of "Minimum Safe Distance". Thanks for getting your own, special copy(ies) of this unique novel, for giving them as gifts, and for passing the word to your network/street/workplace!
(here’s a printable, one-page ad if anyone has a nice bulletin board nearby)
Nine days after release there were 88 sales of MSD! That’s pretty amazing, especially considering that more than half were hardcover editions. I hope you enjoy and grok it. Honest reviews are welcome. They say it took 200 pages before “Dune” started to pay off. With MSD it’s only around 30 or 40, tops. :)
For me, this was the culmination of many years of work and growth, and it's supremely gratifying to have seen more sales than could have come from friends+family+subscribers, and so quickly.
And believe me, I know how long the wait must have seemed to you. For me, this started in 2005.
The narrator I’ve hired has completed the first five chapters. We’re on track for an audiobook in 2023. It’ll be forever before I break even on all the investment that’s gone into establishing this whole process, but at least it was far less expensive than if I’d relied on hybrid publishers (concierge assisted self-pub, no print editions, no audiobook). And most of it was one-time, startup expenses.
I'm past 13k words on my next project, "Custodians of the Future", and building momentum. Onward to the the next book!

Thanks for sticking with me! I hope it’s at least mildly entertaining to watch this author second career thing slowly come together.
Please do share my page with fellow realism-based sci fi fans, especially anyone who enjoyed Weir’s The Martian, Older’s Infomocracy, Stephenson’s Cryptonomicon, Mandel’s Station Eleven, or Corey’s The Expanse. I'm convinced Minimum Safe Distance would appeal to the same audience, because I wrote it for me and *I'm* in that audience.
Thanks for your support!
