X. Ho Yen's Author Newsletter (19 Aug 2021)

Greetings Dear Subscribers to X.HoYen's Author Newsletter.

Important Update

My life circumstances have changed in a way that affords me more time to think and write. This is a great relief and a huge milestone in my effort to get MSD published. Here's why.

My last round of a few dozen more queries has not borne fruit. The reality is, the traditional publishing world really does want easy romps. It amounts to playing a lottery to send out dozens of queries year after year hoping that by sheer luck lightning will strike for a smart, thought-provoking work like MSD.

So I expect to self-publish, and that means I simply must have a catalog of products, not just the one novel and some short stories and flash fiction.

And building a catalog requires time, time which previous day jobs were not affording me.

When the time comes, I'll still need your help sending word out to generate pre-orders, even with self-publishing. The fact is, seeing sales generates sales. Thanks for sticking with me during this long process.

Here's to big life changes.

Fun Stuff

For fun, I think you'll enjoy these 2021 Bulwer-Lytton Award winners for intentionally bad writing ("compose opening sentences to the worst of all possible novels"):

<Here I shared with newsletter subscribers my two new entries in that contest.>

Recently Read

I recently read Andy Weir's latest novel, "Project Hail Mary" and can unequivocally recommend it!

Web Site Update

I decided to go ahead and add my Cafepress product links mentioned in the last newsletter to my xhoyenauthor site. It's hard to see a down side.

Standard stuff

Please do share my URL with fellow realism-based sci fi fans, especially anyone who enjoyed The Martian, Infomocracy, or The Expanse. I'm convinced Minimum Safe Distance would appeal to the same audience, because I wrote it for me and *I'm* in that audience.

Thanks for your support!
