I've received my first query rejection, but I've also received my first request for more material (first 50p. of the manuscript).

As I mentioned on Twitter, one of my martial arts instructors told me that the best students were the ones who chuckled when it hurt, like I did. I think I'm feeling the same way about this process. The rejection sort of made me chuckle in the same way that being in a joint lock used to. The request for more material, well, that just made me smile.

We'll see how it goes!

I certainly won't bother you with an update every time there's a minor development, but these first two seemed worth mentioning.

Please do share the URL with fellow sci fi fans, especially anyone who enjoyed The Martian or is enjoying The Expanse. Surely Minimum Safe Distance would appeal to the same audience. :) And the more twitter followers and newsletter subscribers (who aren't immediate friends) I can report to possibly interested agents and publishers, the greater the chance that MSD will get traditionally published. Self-promotion is often disallowed, e.g. on certain Reddit fora, etc.

Speaking of The Expanse, I'm a bit over halfway through the latest novel, Tiamat's Wrath. No spoilers, but holy mackeral!
